Meeting Notes - April 08

by Mary Schwartz

The April meeting was the start of a two day workshop with Laurie Autio on lace weaves. A lot of wonderful weaving was squeezed into a short amount of time but I think most of us made it around to most of the looms with enough material and ideas to keep both beginners and advanced well satisfied for a long time.

The May meeting will have Mary Ann Sanborn doing a workshop on card weaving.
There may still be an opening so if you are still thinking about it, check with Heidi Beckwith. I was wondering myself where one would get cards. But the internet is an amazing place. It turns out you can make cards out of Cheerios boxes. And you can believe everything you read on the internet. Really.

The program committee has done a phenomenal job. We have a fantastic list of coming attractions for the next couple of years.
September 2008 – Beth Guertin – Cleaning out Your Closet: what to do with your leftover yarns.
October – Sarah Fortin’s 3 day workshop – Weaving in 3 Dimensions
November – Ruby Leslie – Lost in Translation. This is a color workshop. How to incorporate those seductive yarns we just can’t resist.

February 2009 – potluck and show-and-tell.
March 2009 – Jennifer Hoag – felting
April 2009 – Time to turn in your entries for the Guild Show
May 2009 – Guild Show Opening

September 2009 – Habu Textiles – what to do with all those luscious and exotic yarns you’ve seen at NEWS and Convergence.
October 2009 – Robin Spady – 3 day workshop, which will be either Extreme Warp Makeover or Fab Four (exploring the potential of 4 shaft looms)
November 2009 – Charlotte Hamlen – Japanese tapestries and kasuri (Japanese ikat)

February 2010 – potluck and show-and-tell.
March and April 2010 are open but have several possibilities
November of 2010 – Ruby Leslie – the 3 Ds of 3D: Deflection, Differential Shrinkage, and Doubleweave.

MISCELLANEOUS NEWS

A lot of painting is happening at Kimball House and the kitchen is being worked on. The guild will now share rental of the library room with a weaver.
The library’s list of holdings will be posted on the website in the members-only section.

The Next Guild newsletter should come out midsummer.

Frank Tegethoff volunteered to be chair of the Guild Show and Mary Alice Favro agreed to be co-chair.

The Vermont Sheep and Wool Festival is looking for someone to demo (first weekend of September) plus a weaver is needed for sheep to shawl. Susan Rockwell has contact information.
The Sheep and Wool Festival will be moving to Tunbridge in 2009. It was suggested that the Guild might want to have a booth at the Sheep and Wool Festival.

Midwest Fiber and Folk Art Festival is happening mid-July in Crystal Lake, Ill.

Fletcher Farm catalog is out - visit fletcherfarm.org

Trudy Otis had all the newsletters from 1980 to the present. Only Jan/Feb 1998 was missing. A file has been started for the archives.

Hope to see you all in May.
